a family with a single and double stroller in Disney World

6 Best Strollers For Disney in 2022 • Our Globetrotters

If you’re planning a vacation to Disneyland or Walt Disney World with young children, a reliable stroller is probably number one on your packing list. There are so many advantages to taking a stroller with you on your Disney vacation.

They’re a life-saver when your toddler needs to zonk out from too much running around (and a few too many churros). Even if your bub spends most of their time on their feet, it’s such a relief to be able to unload items like jackets, diaper bags, and water bottles instead of carrying them for miles walking.

There are seemingly endless options when it comes to deciding on the best stroller for Disney, so our team has done all the legwork for you. We’ve dug deep to find the best stroller for theme parks and travel to make your Disney vacation one to remember.

This post is part of our best family travel gear series

What to look for in a suitable Disney stroller

We’ve previously researched the best ultra-light models of strollers for travelling, but not all of them are suitable for Disney theme parks. So let’s take a look at the most recent stroller guidelines for Disneyland and Disney World and what stroller options will work well for different families.

Stroller Size Requirements for Disneyland and Disney World

Both Disneyland and Disney World have recently updated their stroller measurement guidelines, much to the dismay of parents everywhere.

As of May 01, 2019, all strollers must measure no more than 31 inches wide by 52 inches long. This eliminates many different styles of jumbo strollers and larger single strollers. In addition to these new guidelines, all Disney theme parks now prohibit all stroller wagons from entering the park.

While the new Disney stroller measurements might seem restricting, there are still plenty of great choices out there for any family size. We would say that most stroller brands in the U.S. have models that fall within these guidelines, and we’ve gathered our favorite picks for you below.

Do I Even Need a Stroller for Disney?

Yes! Aside from our own personal experience, many Globetrotter moms swear by taking strollers to Disney World or Disneyland because the benefits vastly outweigh the drawbacks. A stroller allows you to:

Give your child a break from the endless miles of walkingProvide shade and a comfortable place to napHave a convenient location for your child to eat if alternative seating isn’t availableStore your family’s essentials instead of having to carry them

While you will be required to fold your stroller temporarily while travelling on trams and escalators, these instances are manageable and short-lived.

You will find even if your child or children no longer require a stroller for “everyday outings”, theme parks are a different beast.

Styles of Strollers That Work Well at Disney

Single vs. Double

If you’re only taking one child along with you to Disney, a single stroller is an obvious choice. But what about a baby and a toddler? Or more than two young children? You have several different options, which comes down to what works best for your family. Depending on your needs, you could bring or rent two single strollers or a single and double stroller.

Our advice is to be as minimalist as possible. For example, many double strollers for Disney can hold both an infant car seat and another child, which frees up one adult to run interference (and ask for directions).

Collapsible  vs. Umbrella

When it comes to deciding on the best stroller for Disney, you also have to think about how easily you can fold, carry, and store the stroller while travelling or in restricted areas. Many of the more compact, lightweight travel strollers are collapsible and can even be folded in half. We’ve always preferred strollers with a one-handed release because we hardly ever had both hands free!

You could also go with an umbrella stroller, which is the most minimalist option available. Umbrella strollers typically don’t have much storage space. They lack many of the amenities more traditional options have (cup holders, reclining seats, etc.). However, they are incredibly lightweight, and you can fold them quickly and easily.

Newborns vs. Toddlers

Your child’s age is also a determining factor when deciding on a Disney stroller. If you’re taking a newborn or infant to the theme park, the safest option would be to transport them in their car seat. This means that the stroller you choose will need to have a travel system option. Thankfully, you can typically purchase a universal car seat adapter for many different stroller models.

If you have a toddler, features like a sippy cup holder, padded and adjustable seats, and a large canopy are preferable. As we mentioned earlier, your toddler’s seemingly endless energy will fizzle out more than once during the day, and they need a comfortable place to nap and relax – for everyone’s sake!

More Than Two Kids

If you’re planning on bringing more than two young children with you to Disneyland or Disney World, you might consider multiple strollers or simply rotate who gets to ride in the stroller throughout the day. If you have a baby and older kids, you can also wear them in a baby carrier when everyone must take a lie-down and rest their legs (and eyes).

Rental Stroller vs. Bringing Your Own to Disney

Of course, you can rent a stroller instead of bringing your own stroller. This is particularly handy if you’ve already done away with you “at home” stroller, or if you don’t want it taking up room in your car for the journey.

Both Disneyland and Disney World offer stroller rentals, and you can also rent from third-party companies for the length of your stay. Here are the current rates for both Disney World and Disneyland stroller rentals:

Disney World Stroller Rental Rates

Single Stroller (50 lbs or less): $15/day or $13/multi-dayDouble Stroller (100 lbs or less): $31/day or $27/multi-day

Disneyland Stroller Rental Rates

Single Stroller: $18/dayDouble Stroller: $36/day

Benefits of renting from other companies

The costs of renting a stroller from Disney can add to an already hefty vacation price tag, so you might want to consider renting from a third-party company.

Most independent stroller rental companies are less expensive than Disney. They usually have a broader selection to choose from. Additionally, you can have your stroller delivered right to where you’re staying and rent one for as long as you wish, not just your theme park days.

Safety and care tips for taking your stroller to Disney

While using strollers in Disney World or Disneyland is certainly beneficial, there are several things to consider regarding safety and handling. Here are a few valuable tips:

Your Stroller Needs to Be Folded on Buses, Trams, and In Certain Disney Facilities

If you choose to travel to Disney theme parks via bus or tram, be aware that you’ll need to empty and fold your stroller while in transit. Unless you’re a ritual minimalist, it can be a hassle to repeatedly load and unload your supplies while carrying a hot, fussy child.

No Need to Fold Strollers on the Ferry or Monorail

One of the largest benefits of staying at a monorail resort is that you don’t have to fold up your stroller while riding to the theme park. It certainly beats self-driving and the hassle of making parking arrangements.

Strollers Aren’t Allowed in Restaurants

Unless restaurant staff makes an exception, you’ll have to leave your stroller outside of Disney dining facilities. Sometimes, if your child is sleeping, they will allow you to park them next to your table while you eat. However, that’s usually on a case-by-case basis.

Strollers Aren’t Allowed in Ride Queues or Shows

Due to crowd control and safety reasons, you aren’t allowed to take your stroller with you in ride queues or performances. We recommend bringing a carrier along with you if you’re worried about your child growing tired of standing.

Attach a Lock to the Back Wheel of Your Stroller

Although stroller theft is rare at Disney theme parks, you should never leave valuable property unattended. You can purchase a lock that attaches to the back wheels while still allowing Disney cast members to move it around the parking area.
